Dina Alexander is Assistant Professor of Music Education at Roberts Wesleyan College, in Rochester, N.Y. Dr. Alexander holds three degrees from the Eastman School of Music, including most recently, a Ph.D. in Music Education. She likes to say that Eastman gave her the third degree. Dr. Alexander’s doctoral dissertation, Intrinsic Motivation in Collegiate Secondary Music Instrument Class, united exciting new research in motivation with research in music teaching and learning. Prior to completing the degree at Eastman, Dina taught instrumental music to beginning through advanced public school students. The extraordinary musical achievements demonstrated by Dina’s elementary students garnered attention and admiration from music educators at home and abroad. Expert in beginning instrumental music and intrinsic motivation in music education, Dr. Alexander presents workshops around the world and spends most summers teaching music educators in the Tuscany region of Italy.
